Brittany, France’s north westernmost region, is a hilly peninsula extending out toward the Atlantic Ocean. Its lengthy, rugged coastline is dotted with beach resorts such as chic Dinard and walled Saint-Malo, built on rock in the English Channel. The Pink Granite Coast is famed for its unusual, blush-hued sand and rocks. Rennes, the capital of Brittany – the 10th largest city in France in 2015, is 50kms from the coast (Saint Malo, Dinard and Mont St Michel). Rennes is known to be one of the most festive cities of France, investing in the arts, culture and festivals.

Brittany – Hearing from an expert in the field …

Brittany photo

I spoke recently with Lisa Greene, who is a highly experienced Leggett Agent and Regional Sales Coordinator, living with her family here in Brittany.

Lisa says; “Brittany is simply a wonderful region, where you’ll meet some of the friendliest people on the planet. Take a look at the outline of Brittany on a map and you’ll see instantly, that you’re never far from the sea. You can choose from beaches that face north, south or west. Take a drive across to Finistère to the westernmost part of France and you’ll feel  as though you’ve escaped the stresses and strains of everyday life and entered a new world!  Property across all four départments is great value, with the lowest prices in the Côtes-d’Armor, which faces onto the Golfe de Saint-Malo.”

BRITTANY – The Brittany coast runs for more than 700 miles …

Brittany coast3

The Brittany coast is much loved for its attractive mix of white sandy beaches and rocky coves making it perfect for swimming, gathering muscles in amongst the rocks and walking along the water’s edge. There are also several small islands off the coast, if you can get the transport out to them, they are worth exploring!

BRITTANY RESORTS, BEACHES AND ISLANDS

Côtes D’Armor in northern Brittany is home to a number of popular sandy beaches, ideal as the perfect beach holiday for all the family. The region includes most of the northern coastline and is well know for its idyllic scenery, however there is also much to discover when you move off the beaten track and venture inland a little.

Continuing along the coast, (locally referred to as the ‘Pink Granite Coast’) brings you to the port of Dinan, the cathedral town of Treguier, the riverside port town of Pontrieux and on to the larger town of Lannin, all worthy of a visit during your stay.

Situated in the department of Finistère, who could ask for more when you’re searching for a permanent home or a base for family holidays – just a short walk from 2 fabulous beaches stretching along the beautiful Brittany coast. Leggett Agent; Patrick Kerneis is offering a fully renovated Neo Bretonne home enjoying this wonderful view, fully double glazed and the latest geothermal central heating  for all year round comfort.

Finistère is the most westerly department of Brittany, with its rugged, picturesque countryside, strong regional identity and many miles of coastline scattered with clean, sandy beaches. In fact Finistère is the most coastal department of France accounting for almost one quarter of the country’s overall coastline and almost half of its towns and villages are located at the coast. Bordered to the north by the English Channel, to the west by the Irish Sea and to the south by the Atlantic Ocean, this is the perfect location for those who love the sea and of course, delicious fresh fish and seafood. Over millions of years, waves and storms have shaped the rugged coastline, giving a wild beauty while the proximity of the Gulf Stream gives a gentle climate.

The capital city of the region is Brest, which has as an average of 1732 hours of sunshine per year (comparison Toulouse 2,000 hours per year) and average maximum temperatures of around 22 degrees Celsius. Finistère has superb transport links, Brittany’s toll free roads make it easy to access a host of ports and airports, but the region is served directly by the port at Roscoff, the airport at Brest and TGV services to stations including Brest and Morlaix.
